It has been a very intense two-day workshop for the participants of the first Industrial Dialogue on 3D printing in biomedicine. 17 stakeholders from industries, hospitals, universities and civil society organizations met in Munich to discuss responsible innovation and propose concrete ideas for a smart map for the additive manufacturing sector.
The Industrial Dialogue started with a keynote speech from Bilal Al-Nawas, Professor and Medical Director at the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery at the University of Mainz. The keynote already contained many elements of RRI and was an excellent starting point.
The second day started with a gallery walk, where participants reviewed and vote their favorite tools. The three preferred ideas when then further developed during the breakout sessions and the physical prototypes were presented at the end of the morning.
During the Industrial Dialogue, it became clear that different stakeholders have different ideas of responsible innovation but at the end, all the groups managed to find a common language. In this short video, Ralf Lindner from Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, who organized the Dialogue, highlights some of the outcomes of this event.
